Planned Gift Honors Colleagues and Patients

Sunny Choi, MD and her husband, Douglas SemoncheAfter working in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, Sunny Choi, MD, joined The Valley Hospital as an anesthesiologist in 1987, beginning her nearly four-decade journey with Valley Health System.

“I was so impressed by how warmly I was welcomed to The Valley Hospital by my fellow physicians, nurses, and support staff,” Sunny said. “I quickly came to appreciate that they were incredible, dedicated, and compassionate professionals who consistently went the extra mile to help comfort patients in times of need.”

Sunny, a member of Bergen Anesthesia Group, PC, and her husband, Douglas Semonche, have lived in Mahwah for nearly 40 years, and each member of their family has received care at The Valley Hospital at one point or another. Sunny, who serves as a Trustee of The Valley Hospital Foundation, calls Valley her “home away from home.”

In honor of her longtime association with Valley, Sunny was inspired to make a generous planned gift through a charitable gift annuity (CGA) to support The Valley Hospital and benefit its operating rooms, where she spent much of her career as an anesthesiologist. This type of gift, Sunny says, was appealing because it allowed her to support Valley while also providing a lifetime income. It also allowed her to honor her profession, her colleagues, and her patients.

“I continue to be inspired by the kindness, professionalism, and exceptional teamwork of the operating room staff as they care for our patients,” Sunny said. “It has been a privilege to care for patients alongside remarkable colleagues at Valley. Making this gift to support the operating rooms is my way of saying ‘thank you’ to the people who made my professional life so rewarding.”
